Evelyn Johnston - February 21, 2013

Evelyn Johnston was born on Sept. 14, 1916 at Ramah, Colo. near Colorado Springs. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Ora and Susie Orndorf Carter.
Evelyn grew up in Ramah where she graduated from high school in 1934. After graduation she attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver for two years where she earned a secretary degree. Evelyn worked for five years at the Capitol Life Insurance Company in Denver until her marriage.
Evelyn was married to Edward Johnston on July 31, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in Columbus but moved to Canada during World War II while Ed was in the service. After the war ended they moved to Denver for a short period before moving back to Columbus where Ed was employed by Frito’s Company. They were moved by the military to Maryland during the Korean War before returning to Columbus.
In 1961 Ed’s job required a move to Omaha where they lived until 1968 when they returned to Denver. After Ed’s retirement in 1974 they moved to Aurora, Colo. where much of Evelyn’s time was involved in taking care of Ed’s physical problems and her father who lived to be 102.
After Ed’s death in 1986, Evelyn continued to maintain her home in Aurora until December of 2002 when she moved to Westview Retirement in Grant to be closer to family. Evelyn moved to Linden Court in North Platte in 2008.
She was in failing health and was transferred to the Great Plains Regional Medical Center the first week of February. She entered into eternal peace on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 16, 2013. She had reached the age of 96.
Evelyn was a true example of a wonderful Christian and a lady of grace to her grandchildren and everyone who knew her. She was a very kind and gentle soul.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her two children; Richard in 1971 and Judy in 1973; one great-grandson, Brady, and her two sisters, Helen Kuebler and Ruth Carter
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her grandchildren, Anna and husband Marty Larsen of rural Arthur, Neb., Serepha and husband Leondro Cruz of New York City, Juniper Hill of Stillwater, Minn., and Dustin Reed of Helena Mont.; seven great-grandchildren; Jesse, Cody, and Corey Larsen; Dillon and Braden Hill; and Derek and Courtney Reed; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Faith Presbyterian Church in Aurora.
Burial will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
