Lady Knights, Coach Thurin receive honors
Several members of the North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team have received postseason honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference (NCCAC).
Sophomore Maggie (Condon) Carson of North Platte received the prestigious honor of being named to the NJCAA’s All-American Second Team. She is the first Lady Knights basketball player in NPCC’s history to receive the honor.
Carson is the college’s all time leading women’s basketball scorer with 954 points. In the 2011 season, she led the team with 16.2 points per game and 199 rebounds.
She was also named “Most Valuable Player” of the NCCAC, and was named to the All-Region IX Division II Women’s Basketball Team and the All-Region IX Division II Tournament Team.
Sophomore Ivy Kuroki of Hershey was named to the NCCAC First Team, the All-Region IX Team and the All-Region IX Tournament Team. She averaged 11.3 points per game, 156 rebounds and 99 assists for the 2011 season.
Freshman Destini Lewis of Beaumont, Texas, received NCCAC Honorable Mention and was named to the All-Region IX Team. She averaged 8.4 points a game, 62 rebounds and 64 assists this season.
Hershey’s Ann Kuroki was named to the All-Region IX Tournament Team. The freshman averaged 5.1 points per game, 138 rebounds and 45 assists this season and scored 8 points and 10 rebounds in the Region IX playoffs.
Additionally, Lady Knights Coach Dick Thurin was named Region IX Division II Coach of the Year and District F Coach of the Year.
The honors come on the heels of an outstanding season for the Lady Knights team, which included claiming the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II District F title and earning a berth at the NJCAA Division II National Basketball Championships for the first time in the college’s history.
