|Mailand selected as October Senior of the Month|
Calla Mailand, a senior at Perkins County High School, has been selected Senior of the Month for October.
She is the daughter of Steve and Kathy Mailand of rural Grant.
Mailand has been a participant in many activities throughout her high school career.
Some of them include mock trial, FFA, student council, National Honor Society and speech.
She has also been in marching band, jazz band and concert band as well as a member of the chorus.
She has participated in several musicals, one-act plays and spring plays while at Perkins County High School.
Community service includes participating in Perkins County Youth Council, volunteering at the Perkins County Senior Center, Christmas caroling and volunteering at the extension office.
She attended RYLA camp the summer between her sophomore and junior years.
After graduating in May, Mailand hopes to attend a four year college, and has of yet not decided which field she wants to study, but has an interest in medicine/massage therapy.
She plans to further her studies in Spanish and would like to participate in an exchange program in a Spanish-speaking country.
She appreciates being raised in the community of Grant where she has been supported in all of her activities by her church family, community members and teachers.
For being selected Senior of the Month, Mailand’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant and she will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored by Pinnacle Bank of Grant and members of the community.
