|Combine fire interrupts picking|
By Jan Rahn
A combine belonging to Mel and Kathy Aerni caught fire north of Madrid Thursday, Oct. 14, destroying less than an acre of standing dryland corn.
According to their son, Pat Aerni, the Agco combine he was driving was repaired and up and running in a couple days.
The corn, which belongs to Pat and Kris Aerni, was being harvested mid-afternoon when bearing failure caused the combine to catch on fire.
The Madrid and Grant Fire Departments responded to the call.
The Aernis had the fire nearly out by the time the firefighters arrived on the scene.
