|Program promotes youth workers for November election|
Nebraska youth ages 14 to 18 are encouraged to participate as election workers for the Nov. 2 general election.
The Youth Election Service (YES), sponsored by Secretary of State John Gale and the Nebraska Bankers Association, is designed to increase interest and involvement in the election system among young people.
“YES allows young people to serve our democracy, learn about the election system and provide valuable community service,” Gale said.
Participants are eligible to take part in drawings for 10 $50 savings bonds, which will be provided by the Nebraska Bankers Association.
Five bonds will be awarded in geographical drawings involving individuals who served a minimum of four hours. The remaining five bonds will be awarded in a drawing involving individuals who worked eight or more hours.
Youths interested in serving as paid workers or volunteers should contact their county election offices as soon as possible.
Since YES was started for the November 2004 general election, the program has attracted some 1,300 participants.
