After a 1-3 start to the season, the Wallace football team brought its record to 3-3 with a win over Paxton Friday.

Wallace Head Coach Eric Miller said Paxton is a good, tough team, and he was very proud of his team for the way it battled against the Tigers.

“The first half we made some mental mistakes and shot ourselves in the foot, but we responded well in the second half and became more physical as the game went on,” Miller said.

The teams traded touchdowns through the first half.

Wallace scored first to take a 8-0 lead, but Paxton scored with 3:30 left in the first quarter.

The Wildcats fell behind 8-12 when Paxton scored early in the second quarter. Forty seconds later Wallace tied the game at 14 with its own touchdown.

Scoring in the second quarter was far from over. Paxton regained the lead with 3:47 left in the half, but Wallace answered once more, scoring a minute later. The missed extra point had the Wildcats trailing 20-22.

Wallace fell behind 20-28 with 20.5 seconds left in the half and answered quickly once more. The Wildcats scored with 4.2 second left in the half and headed to the locker room trailing 26-28.

The Wildcats took control in the third quarter, scoring twice within the first three minutes of the half while holding Paxton scoreless in the quarter.
