SPVA next up for PC cross country

Perkins County’s cross country team competed in two meets over the last week at Ogallala and Kearney.

Thursday, Sept. 23, the team raced at Crandall Creek Country Club in Ogallala against 19 other schools in attendance.

98 varsity boys raced at Crandall Creek, and 75 varsity girls. Perkins County’s girls team was short one of its runners Thursday, senior Hallie Fisher, leaving them with just three contenders in the race.

Senior Colton Pouk picked up a medal for 10th place with a time of 17:50, but no other Perkins County runners placed high enough to medal. Freshman Mason McGreer was not too far behind Pouk, however, finishing in 17th. Gloy was the frontrunner for Perkins County’s girls, completing the race in 25:34.26 for 52nd.

The boys finished ninth as a team with 158, with Broken Bow taking first overall at just 24 points.

Boys: Colton Pouk,10th, 17:50; Mason McGreer, 17th, 18:07; Brock Tines, 70th, 20:52; Brient Wood, 93rd, 23:08; Johan Mireles, 95th, 24:26; Jordan Mireles, 98th, 25:57.

Girls: Meredith Gloy, 41st, 24:16;  Ava Reese, 54th, 25:25; Maggie Fisher, 67th, 27:54.

 

Monday, Sept. 27, the team traveled to Kearney for the UNK high school cross country invitational at Kearney Country Club.

This is the largest meet the team has competed in so far, with teams from all across the state racing.

In the boys Class D race, 243 runners competed. There were 179 in the Class D girls race.

Pouk finished fifth with a time of 18:11.72, and McGreer earned 17th place after a 19:10.97 race.

The boys team ended the day in 16th place overall with 175 points. The girls were ranked 25th with 211 points.

Next Action

Perkins County will be hosting this year’s SPVA cross country competition Thursday, Oct. 7 with races starting at 4 p.m.

After SPVA, the team only has the district and potentially state races left until the fall 2021 season comes to a close.
