Plainsmen get two meets in last week

Perkins County’s Plainsmen track teams got in a pair of meets last week after seeing the Sutherland meet called off April 17. 

The Plainsmen traveled to Imperial Wednesday for the Chase County Invite, which was delayed a day due to weather. As a result, all events were finals. 

On Saturday, the Plainsmen took part in the Mike Troxel Invitational at Hershey.

In boys competition, the Plainsmen finished fourth in the six-team meet at Chase County and third in the six-team meet at Hershey.

The girls finished third at Chase County and sixth at Hershey in the six-team fields. 

SPVA here Saturday

Perkins County will host the SPVA meet at the E. Lee Todd Track here Friday. 

Coach Shayne Hite said there will be some stiff competition at the SPVA meet. 

He said he’s seeing improvements in the times and marks and expects that to continue again this week. 

After SPVA, there are only two meets remaining before districts—Best of the Midwest Tuesday at Sutherland and the Dundy County Stratton twilight May 7. 

The SPVA meet will begin with the morning session of field events starting at 11 a.m.

Chase County

At Imperial, Casey Hanson and Irvin Reyes placed third and sixth respectively in the 100 and second and eighth in the 200. 

Colton Pouk took second in both the 400 and 800. 

Triston Hite took second in the pole vault and third in the triple jump, where Jeb Kohl added a fifth-place finish. 

Hunter Garner placed fifth in the high jump, Mason Toner was seventh in the 1,600 and Chase Johnson placed eighth in the shot put. 

The 4x100 and 4x400 relays both finished second while the 4x80 took fourth. 

On the girls side at Imperial, Kailee Potts took second in both hurdle events, followed by Hallie Fisher fifth in the 300s and eighth in the 100s. 

Autumn Anderson turned in a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 31-3. Rylee Huff added a fifth-place effort. 

Meredith Gloy took third in the 3,200 and added a fifth-place finish in the 1,600.

Dani Burge was fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot. 

Selah Richter-Martinez was fifth in the long jump and ran a personal best in the 400 to finish seventh. 

Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays took third to round out the team scoring for the girls.

Troxel Invite, Hershey

At Hershey, first place performances were turned in by Johnson in the shot put and Hite in the triple jump. Hite also finished in a tie for second in the pole vault. 

Pouk took second in both the 400 and 800 while Hanson was second in the long jump and fourth in the 100.

Hunter Garner took third in the high jump with younger brother Blake taking third in the 300 hurdles. 

All three relays took second.

Anderson took second in the triple jump while Potts added a second in the 300 hurdles with Ava Reese running  a personal best in the 300 hurdles to place sixth.

The 4x400 finished fourth while the 4x10 finished fifth.
