Perkins County medals four wrestlers

Perkins County placed four wrestlers at their opening meet at Gordon-Rushville on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Due to weather, the team did not attend their first meet at Elwood on Nov. 30. The Broken Bow Invite scheduled for Dec. 1 was rescheduled for Dec. 21.

In Gordon, Brandon Knoles and Austin Meyer both went 3-2 to place fifth in the 220- and 285-pound divisions respectively.

Jace Wid won two matches and lost three to capture sixth place in the 160-pound class and Deitrik Brueggeman won two and lost two in the 182-pound class to take seventh.

Head Coach Tanner Collins said he saw a lot of good things, but some mistakes were made that cost them some matches.

“There’s plenty of work to do, but I think we have a solid base to work off of now,” he said.

Emilio Perez just got cleared to start wrestling and is expected to wrestle at Broken Bow. Carson Thelander is out for the season with a back injury. Beau Wood did not participate due to taking the ACT that day.

The team will travel to the Sutherland Invite this Saturday. The meet begins at 8 a.m. MT.
