Grant golf team qualifies one for state

Perkins County freshman Jacqueline Gloy qualified for the state golf meet with a fifth place finish at the C-5 district golf tournament in Kimball Monday.

Gloy was the only freshman among the 10 qualifiers, making it to state by a comfortable eight strokes.

As a team, PCS finished in fourth, one spot out of team qualification, but 24 strokes back from third-place finisher Chadron. Valentine claimed the team title with the help of the top two golfers. Hershey also claimed a state berth.

State will be held Monday and Tuesday at Elks Country Club in Columbus.

Last Wednesday PCS was at the Dundy County Stratton Invite in Benkelman.

Kaitlin Meyer placed seventh to lead the Plainsmen with a 108. Gloy finished in the top 10, as well, after shooting a 110. Rounding out the varsity squad was Emma Klahn, Ella Uehling and Zoe Baumgartner. Representing the JV team were Lexie Fisher, Brianna Ledford, Layla Vigil, Madi Swesey and Pearl Kirkpatrick.
