Gloy has personal bests at state golf championships

Perkins County freshman Jacqueline Gloy made the most of her first appearance at the Class C State Golf Championships.

Gloy teed off at 9:18 a.m. Monday morning with Kristyn Woolley of Hershey and Rylee Altwine of Pierce.

Playing at Elks Country Club in Columbus, Gloy made par on three holes and was one over on six others. Gloy finished with a score of 100, ahead of both her playing partners and leaving her tied for 47th place out of 96 golfers.

PCS Head Coach Kelly Smith said Gloy played solid all day.

Gloy’s putter was inconsistent on the front nine, Smith said, but caught fire on the back.

“She was able to post her PR first round at state, so that’s very impressive,” Smith added.

Gloy was one of the first golfers on the course Tuesday with a 9:09 tee time and was paired with Alena Peters of Pierce and Cece Mlnarik of O’Neil. 

After shooting a 47 on her first nine holes Day 1, Gloy finished Tuesday’s first nine holes with a score of 48.

Gloy did a fantastic job through seven of the final nine hole. The 17th tripped her up, she shot four strokes worse the Monday on the hole, but bounced back to improve on the 18th. Gloy finished at 99 on the day, one stroke better than her score on Monday after hitting par on two holes and one over on eight holes.

“She played very well today. Putting was much improved today. ” Smith said, adding, windy conditions made the course a challenge, plus the 16th and 17th were tough holes on everyone.

Overall, Smith said he was very pleased with Gloy’s poise as a freshman at her first state competition.

Broken Bow cruised to the Class C team title with three golfers in the top 15. Minden was second.

Lincoln Christian junior Olivia Lovegrove claimed the individual title.
