Darrell Burge, 78 of Madrid, Nebraska, passed away Oct. 10, 2018, at Spring Creek Health Care Center in Ft Collins, Colorado.

Darrell was born May 9, 1940, in rural Perkins County to Glen and LaVene (Jones) Burge. He attended Madrid High School. Darrell married Rachel Barrientos on Aug. 3, 1987.

Darrell’s vocation was farming, and he loved his work and worked hard. Life was about family, and he loved living in the country. Rural Madrid was his sanctuary, and he was very happy and content with his life in rural Nebraska.

Darrell never got caught up in the rat race of life, and he was kind, gentle, unassuming and easy going.

He loved to sit and visit with folks and to travel with his family. Darrell also really enjoyed eating, especially desserts.

Darrell had an amazing dog that he loved, a blue heeler named Pete. Darrell had Pete so well-trained he could move all of the cattle into the corral without oversight. Pete was a significant part of Darrell’s life and was well loved.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Burge; and a brother-in-law, Ivor Bunting.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel Burge of Madrid; daughter, Cindy Burge and granddaughter, Jodie of Fort Collins, Colo.; stepchildren, Draper, Ivy, and Bridget; step-granddaughter, Mikealie; three brothers, Wayne (Nancy) Burge of Grant, Dale (Sharon) Burge, Butch (Donna) Burge, all of Madrid; sister, JoAnn Bunting of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Darrell’s memory. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Tammy Aubushon officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Madrid Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
