Carol Burnham

Carol Burnham, 91, of Grant, Neb., passed away on Feb. 9, 2023, in Omaha, Neb. She was born on June 22, 1931, in Sarben, Neb., to Loren Ray and Alice Anne (McConnell) Kirkpatrick. 

On March 25, 1951, Carol married Willis Burnham and made her home in Grant. Their union was blessed with three children, Debra, Neal, and Susan.

Carol was a graduate of Perkins County High School and went on to have a successful career in nursing, working as an x-ray technician, lab technician, surgical nurse, ward clerk and accountant. She retired when her husband became ill.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Carol was a talented artist, seamstress, tailor, and cook. Her resourcefulness and quick learning ability allowed her to even teach home economics at Perkins County High School as a student when they were in need of a teacher.

Carol’s unconditional love for her family is a treasure that will be passed down for generations. Carol will be remembered as a very talented woman who lived a full and meaningful life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, one sister, son-in-law and two baby granddaughters. She leaves behind her daughter, Debra Van Alstine of Omaha, son, Neal (Judy) Burnham of Sycamore, Illinois, and daughter, Susan (Craig) Bence of Elkhorn. Carol was also a proud grandmother to Nicholas Burnham, Drew Burnham (Christina), Jacob (Michelle) Burnham, Tiffany (Eric) Bence-Gilsdorf, and Nathaniel (Kayla) Bence. She had 11 great-grandchildren, Madelin, Nicholas, Aliyah, Natallia, Melody, Rosella, Lucas, Kairi, Layla, Sophia, and Rowan; along with many other relatives and friends. 

Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church in Grant in memory of Carol. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where the services will be streamed live. 

Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant.

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Grant, with Pastor Denise Johnson officiating. Interment of Cremains will take place at a later date in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.

Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
