With the belief in the efforts being put forth by the newly formed organization Western Sky Community Care Center to establish elder care in Grant, the Mennonite communities in Perkins County and Paxton are teaming up raise funds for the center through a community dinner.

The fund raiser is planned for this Saturday, Nov. 5 from 4-8 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. All are welcome to come, with a free-will donation being taken.

Jon Nikkel of Madrid, who is just one of a dozen organizers of the event, said the Mennonite Community believes in maintaining elder care in Perkins County and is doing everything they can to support the effort.

Nikkel said there will be three smokers utilized to cook for the event, with the main dish being smoked brisket. Side dishes will be salad, baked beans, dinner roll and homemade pies.

Tents will be set up on the fairgrounds to accommodate what the organizers are hoping to be around 800 to 1,000 or more people.

Carry-outs will be available. The community is asked to just walk in and request a take-out order.

In addition to the meal, a silent-auction will be conducted during the event with all funds going to Western Sky.
