Plainsmen can’t contain Tigers on the field

Although this year’s Dundy County Stratton football team isn’t as potent as its 2020 state championship team, Perkins County still faced a talented DCS team Friday evening in Grant.
The Tigers scored three first quarter touchdowns and added two more in the second quarter before Perkins County scored on a 53-yard pass from Dawson Tjaden to Jackson Wykert. Tjaden’s pass to Nolan Foster put eight points on the board for the Plainsmen.
Perkins County just missed out on two more points before halftime, when the DCS quarterback was sacked by Foster and Ethan Sihm, but ruled down on the one-yard line.
PCS went into halftime trailing 8-38, however, it was the Plainsmen who first put points on the board in the second half, thanks to a DCS fumble. Sihm knocked Tigers into the end zone ahead of him on an 11-yard run to cap the nine-play drive.
Two touchdowns by Dundy County Stratton ended the night, a 14-54 Plainsmen loss.
Sihm led PCS offensively with 53 yards rushing and defensively, with four solo tackles and 10 assists.
Tjaden finished the night 10-17 passing for 93 yards and the touchdown to Wykert, who had three catches for 44 yards.
Overall, PCS had more passing yards than the Tigers, 93-87, but DCS racked up 382 yards on the ground compared to 157 for the Plainsmen.

After a two-game home stand to open the season, the Plainsmen play their first of two consecutive away games Thursday at Bayard. The Tigers have lost both of their games this season, 8-72 to Class D2 number seven Hitchcock County and 18-64 to Sandhills Valley.
Next week Perkins County will travel to 0-2 Kimball, which has lost to a pair of 2-0 teams, Hyannis and Leyton. Kimball also faces Class D1 number one North Platte St. Pat’s this week.
