Alberta Louise Berry, age 86 of Lemoyne, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Great Plains Health in North Platte, Nebraska.

Alberta was born July 10, 1935 to Lyle and Maxine Derry in Limon, Colo.

Different jobs and ventures moved her family to different states including Kansas and California, where her father worked in the shipyards. His love of farming finally brought him back to Nebraska where Alberta attended country school with her horse being her mode of transportation. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1952 where she met her future husband. On Dec. 17, 1953 she married Charles Berry in Lewellen, Nebraska. They made their home on Berry Ranch at Lemoyne. This is where she developed a deep love of what she called Her Sandhills.

They left the ranch in 1962 to pursue farming. Alberta farmed beside Charley where she perfected her ability with tractors and excelled with her truck driving skills at a high standard. She might have worked in a man’s world but never forgot who she was. This was apparent by her lipstick and nail polish always matching.

They moved back to the ranch in 1972 where she lived till Dec. 2021 when she moved to Wel-Life in Ogallala.

The diversity of Alberta’s life and talents were endless. She could do anything with a sewing machine. Not only clothing but recovered many a truck seat. She loved her flowers and yard. Looking at it as her solace. Alberta always had time for her family. She will be missed by all who were ever around her.

Alberta is survived by her husband Charley, son Calvin, both of Lemoyne and daughter Tammy (John) Rothwell of Hyannis, Nebraska, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Floyd Derry.

Memorial services were held at Draucker Funeral Home on Tues., June 7, 2022 at 2:00 in Ogallala, Nebraska with Pastor Chuck Rager of the Methodist Church officiating.

The family will privately scatter her ashes over Her Sandhills at a later date.
