Strong group of lettermen, state qualifiers return for Wallace

The Wallace track teams have a good group of letterwinners to build around for this season.
The boys’ team returns seven letterwinners, including junior Trey Robertson will defend his Class D 3,200 meter state championship. Robertson also finished third in the 1,600 meter run.
Wallace Coach Danielle Snider said areas of strength coaches are hoping to see include distance, hurdles, throwing and sprints.
The girls’ team has eight returning letterwinners. Returning state qualifiers include Kendyl Flaming, Reagan Pelster, Dajana Garrison, Brooke Bryant and Mariah Gardner.
“Girls are strong in several areas of the track but the ones that stand out the most are distance, jumps and hurdles. This year we have the opportunity to see what our throwers are going to be able to do with several underclassmen coming up,” Snider said.
Looking over her whole team, Snider said one thing that stands out amongst the track athletes is the majority of them are willing to try anything to make themselves better and to benefit the team.
As always, without a track to practice on, Wildcat athletes continue to be adaptable.
“The biggest challenge with practice is we do not have a track for athletes to work on. So at least once a week we travel to a new location to practices hurdles and hand offs,” Snider said.
That’s not all bad, Snider added.
“I almost think not having track gives the athletes a little more grit, try, and coachability,” she said.
