PC mock trial team qualifies for state

Perkins County’s mock trial team defeated McCook last week, earning them a slot in the state competition Jan. 10-12.

All of the competition has been completed virtually via zoom, according to Coach Diana Richter-Tate.

This year’s case involves manslaughter charges against a women whose sister died at a vaping party held by the woman. In the first two rounds, the Perkins County team will act once as the state prosecutor and once as the defendant’s attorney. In the third round, they have to be prepared to argue either side of the case.

Other regional qualifiers include Gering, Ogallala, Ainsworth, GI Northwest, Wayne, Lutheran High Northeast, York, Fillmore Central, Bellevue West, Creighton Prep and Duchesne Academy of Sacred Heart.
