The days are counting down to this year’s wheat harvest in southwest Nebraska. By most appearances, this year’s crop has put on some good sized heads which creates enthusiasm for above average yields. The fields at the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center just east of Grant are bursting with a variety of field test plots that are moving towards full maturity every day. The recent cooler weather is a welcomed relief after several days of hot temperatures and dry winds. Typically, the annual wheat harvest will begin within the next 30 days on dryland fields.
