Greeley, Colorado, resident Mickey Jay Mizner, 71, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Fairacres Manor in Greeley.  For several years Mick’s health had failed with Parkinson’s disease and from recent surgeries.  He was cremated and there will be no service per his immediate family’s wishes.

Mick was born May 15, 1948, in Grant, Nebraska to Willie and Maxine (Kurkowski) Mizner.  He graduated from Perkins County High School with the class of ’66 and attended Colorado State College at Greeley with a baseball scholarship.  He earned his bachelor and master’s degrees there and played college baseball for four years with the Bears team.

He was married to Connie Myers and they had two children, Culley Jay and Nikki.  He taught school for a year before going to work for his father-in-law in the cattle business.

Mick loved all sports.  Whatever the season, he was an active participant in each high school sport with as much attention and gumption that he could muster.  He followed his uncle, Gene Kurkowski, into baseball—each loving and spending many hours playing, coaching, and promoting the sport.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother; uncles Albert, Arnold, Harold Mizner and wives, Lawrence Mizner, Eugene and Paul Kurkowski and wives; aunts Ardis Walters and Merilyn Mitchem; and cousins Byron Kurkowski, and Greg Mizner.

Mick is survived by Connie, son CJ and wife Kari of Eaton CO, daughter Nikki and husband Chad of Sapulpa OK, and five grandchildren; his sister, Dixie and husband, Gale McDonald of Hastings; niece Darcie and Ben Brink of Lincoln; nephews Damon and Debra McDonald of Aurora, Dade and Hilary McDonald of McCool Junction; and their 14 children; uncle Gene Mitchem of North Platte; and cousins Gaylene and Dennis Lombardi, Karen and George Newland, Susan and Chad Traxler, Gary and Susan Mizner, Mike and Cindy Mizner, Paula Welch, Steve Walters, Mark and Monica Walters, Liz and Mike Harn, Larry Dean Mizner, and other extended family and friends across the country.
