Property owners receive notice of valuation changes

Valuation change notices were mailed late last month by the Perkins County Assessor’s Office to all property owners whose property value increased or decreased from 2017 to 2018.

State statutes require that agricultural land be valued at 69 to 75 percent of market value, and that all other real property be valued at 92 to 100 percent of market value, according to the notice sent to property owners.

Increases/Decreases

• Residential (Grant): All residential property in Grant, Grant suburban and Kenton Heights was reviewed for 2018. Perkins County Assessor Peggy Burton said it was revalued in 2017, but because of the high demand and low supply for housing, sale prices increased significantly, creating the need for another revaluation this year.

• Agricultural land: Burton said dryland decreased in taxable value by 18 percent based on sales, while irrigated and grassland remained the same.

•  New construction: New construction will cause value to increase.

Valuation protests must be filed with the Perkins County Clerk’s Office on or before June 30.
