Spring storms bring several inches of rain to Perkins County

Beginning on Sunday afternoon, May 27, lasting through the night and well into the morning on Memorial Day, a spring storm moved through the area that brought over three inches of rain and winds that gusted over 60 mph at times.

Services scheduled for Memorial Day were canceled in Wallace and Elsie but continued as planned in Grant and Venango. Madrid’s was moved to the community hall.

There were several power outages reported across the region stretching from Paxton to south of Elsie and Madrid and west toward Venango, and a moment of power loss in Grant.

According to Midwest Electric, crews were sent out beginning on Sunday afternoon, some staying out all night. They had several crews out working the majority of the day on Monday.

The Grant City Pool opened for the summer on a chilly Monday with temperatures never reaching anything above 72, and the wind still steadily blowing a cool breeze the majority of the afternoon.
