Wallace students selected for all-state choir

Four hundred and forty selected choir students from all across the state gathered in Lincoln Nov. 16-18 to participate in the 2017 all state choir.

Wallace students Hannah Sullivan and Micah Swedberg were selected to sing in this year’s all-state choir, under the direction of Dr. Kristina Caswell MacMullen, assistant professor of conducting and choral activities at Ohio State University.

These students were among the 3,000 who submitted audition recordings earlier this fall, striving to be a part of the Nebraska all-state band, chorus, jazz band or orchestra. Being selected to be a member in one of these groups is the highest music honor attainable in Nebraska.

Dr. MacMullen has conducted all-state and honor choirs throughout the United States. She has taught at all levels and has earned many honors and awards with her ensembles as well as for her conducting.

The students had intense rehearsals with Dr. MacMullen Thursday evening, throughout the day on Friday and Saturday morning. The experience concluded with a performance on Saturday afternoon in the Lied Center for the Performing Arts.
