Lady Plainsmen defeat Sedgwick County

The Lady Plainsmen volleyball team played three games last week, adding one more win to their current record of 6-12.

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Perkins County traveled to Imperial for triangular play against the Chase County Longhorns and Gothenburg Swedes.

Thursday, Sept. 28, Perkins County played the Sedgwick County Cougars in Julesburg, Colo.

Gothenburg

The Plainsmen were defeated by Gothenburg in two sets, 23-25 and 16-25.

Perkins County played a close first set against the Swedes. However, unorganized play and trouble with passing gave the Swedes the edge they needed to defeat the Plainsmen.

“We passed a lot of balls to the top of the net,” said Head Coach Erica Turner, “giving Gothenburg’s big hitters the chance to hammer them at us.”

Kadie Hanson: 7 points; Dani Burge: 3 kills; Aryn Seiler: 2 kills, 3 solo blocks; Emma Schrotberger: 2 kills; Jessica Klingelhoefer: 4 digs, 3 solo blocks, 6 set assists; Sydney Wilson: 3 solo blocks.

Chase County

Chase County defeated the Plainsmen in two sets, 19-25 and 6-25

Perkins County was unable to get momentum going in their favor and struggled against the Longhorns.

The Plainsmen’s lack of rhythm and energy allowed the Longhorns to run away with the game in two sets.

After their second game, Coach Turner said the team discussed setting goals, not only for games, but in practice as well.

The girls have continued to make improvements throughout the season and continue to push to become a better team.

Bella Frazier: 3 points; Wilson: 2 kills; Hanson: 7 digs, Burge: 2 kills; Seiler: 6 solo blocks; Klingelhoefer: 4 solo blocks, 5 set assists.

Sedgwick County

Perkins County defeated the Cougars in five sets, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-7.

The Plainsmen came out strong in the first and second sets, but were unable to pull out wins in either.

By the third set, the Plainsmen regained their focus and fought hard for the win in a close set.

The fourth and fifth set were strong and the girls were able to come out on top in both, winning the game.

“The girls were having fun playing and that was awesome to see,” said Turner.

Turner was proud of the mental and physical toughness her team showed against the Cougars.

“Mentality is such a huge part of volleyball,” she said. “It was good to see they were strong enough to come out with the win on that game.”

Hanson: 15 points, 4 ace serves, 25 digs; Seiler: 13 kills, 10 solo blocks, 11 block assists; Schrotberger: 11 kills, 26 digs; Burge: 11 kills; Klingelhoefer: 40 set assists; Wilson: 5 solo blocks, 7 block assists.
