Kiffen Cook owns long jump record

Perkins County’s track teams finally got a bit of a breather after three meets in a 10-day span.

They competed at Sutherland April 13, Chase County April 18 and Hershey last Saturday, April 22.

They won’t compete until Friday at the SPVA meet in Hershey. However, the date for that meet could change, based on weather predictions.

Coach Shane Hite said the break has enabled them to concentrate on drills and workouts. After the SPVA meet, only one regular season meet remains before the May 11 district meet at Mitchell.

He said they put some kids in fewer events at Chase County and then loaded up events Saturday at Hershey.

new long jump record

Senior Kiffen Cook now owns the school long jump record.

At Sutherland, Cook tied the previous record of 21-00.5 set by Elliot Carlson in 2013.

At Chase County Tuesday, Cook eclipsed the record with a jump of 21-03 to take sole possession of the record.

The Plainsmen turned in several other top marks last week.
