The boys basketball teams in the state of Nebraska entered the final stage of their 2016-17 basketball season as sub-district play got underway last week. The Wallace Wildcats entered the tournament with a number two seed and they had to face the third-ranked Eustis-Farnam Knights for their first game of the tournament. The competition unfolded last Tuesday night in Cambridge.
The Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead when Micah Swedberg drove the lane for a bucket and one. After the Knights responded, Wallace put up six unanswered points, four from Jacob Melton and two from Ty Maline. The Knights were able to add four points to the board, but it looked as if Wallace would take an eight point lead into the second quarter after Tyler Daniels got a basket and Melton added three additional points. Eustis-Farnam however, was able to get a put back just ahead of the buzzer, so Wallace had to settle with a 14-8 lead.
The Cats were able to stay in control of the game but the Knights kept battling, finding ways to stay right with the Big Blue in the second quarter.
