Trees need water now

Constant wind has taken its toll

Go water your trees!
These last few weeks of almost constant 20 MPH + winds are likely historical.
I am seeing a lot of death in evergreens, particularly Colorado spruce.
Keep in mind, just because it still looks green, doesn’t mean the damage isn’t already done. It is a matter of when the damage will ripen.
As temperatures rise, all the winter burn and damage will begin to show as the needles turn to brown. The damage was done over the last few months, not just in the last few weeks.
Automatic irrigation systems typically run from May to October—that leaves six months without consistent watering— when Mother Nature doesn’t provide, it can be rough.
Dry soils are not great conditions for healthy root systems. The trees will shrink their root systems to conserve energy, so even though we dump water on them, it does not mean they have the ability to take advantage of all that water.
It takes time, and many waterings to maintain good root growing conditions.
Mulch. mulch. mulch. Help hold as much moisture in the soil as possible, but take care not to drown the roots.
