Recap of special hospital board meeting

Future of Golden Ours Convalescent Home discussed

Per the agenda, and as had been widely communicated via the Tribune and otherwise – this was indeed another “special session” exclusively on topic regarding Golden Ours, all aspects of the past, present, and future of this important element of PCHS.
The meeting called to order at 7 a.m., and we did have very good, healthy representation from the community attend, approximately 40 folks, many are family members of current residents being served by Golden Ours, or with personal connection to the facility.
Glad to have had this degree of representation in the room, as it was very helpful in gaining open, honest understanding of many aspects of the past, present, and future that some may or may not have been aware – all very insightful for everyone as we proceeded to spend three-and-a-half hours together.
We worked through many angles of the overall operational, financial, and staffing lay of the land – updating many of the reference points that have commanded the attention of our board for quite some time.
As has been openly noted and understood, this has been a standing agenda item at each and every board meeting we’ve held, back to last June 2021, including a pair of previous “special sessions” held last September 2021 and more recently in January 2022.
So no aspect of this is at all “new news” with our board, so lots of the discussion via our board members was a continuation of consistent recap and review – while clearly more openly fresh news and perspective with the general public in attendance.
Again, all of great benefit to gain this level of awareness and accurate reflection with these community members of everything at hand.
No official action
As the meeting arrived at a good place for adjournment as we approached 10:30 a.m. – the  board made no motion for any specific action.
No official motion was made, meaning no vote was cued to be called, no declaration to initiate intent to proceed toward closure…  those from the community in attendance were obviously witness to this, again, helpful for everyone to absolutely know the straight scoop at this specific marker in time.
So – a key quote from me in the Tribune – “we simply continue to do our very best to keep the facility properly staffed, by whatever means possible, in providing consistent care for our residents” – still 100 percent true today. And, “no specific timeline or deadlines have been determined to consider if the commitment for the facility can be fully sustained for the long haul” – also still 100 percent true today, so we carry on the very best we can.
Here is what is also 100 percent true – the current composition of the PCHS Board has exactly two meetings left, with order of events as follows:
April 25 – PCHS Board regular meeting
May 10 – Election Day (of the five non-incumbent candidates filed for our two open board seats, I believe three of them were indeed in attendance yesterday)
May 16 – PCHS Board regular meeting (final meeting of current board)
June 20 – PCHS Board regular meeting (new board members officially sworn into service).
