Westview Featured

Business Spotlight was Westview Retirement Community with Director Connie Pofahl as representative at the meeting.

Westview was built in 1993 thanks to the leadership of Dr. Cliff and Janie Colglazier; Ron and Gloria Patrick; Gregg and Denice Aten; Bruce McCormick, Jorje Geisert, Lynn and Marlene Flaming and Ivan and Ann Regier.

According to Pofahl, the 38-resident complex is full at this time. The complex includes 31 residents in the main building and seven who live in the duplexes. Those interested in moving into Westview can call and be placed on a waiting list.

Westview is made up of two sizes of apartments, standard and deluxe, and there are also three duplexes.

Anyone who is 55 and older is eligible to live at the community. Currently there are 11 employees at Westview.

Those who would benefit the most from Westview would be retirees who don’t want to have so much upkeep with their yard and home. Westview provides a safe and independent living community, with the freedom to come and go, Pofahl said. The community is always active, with many events going on.

Future plans for Westview include helping to educate the public more about the independent living option that Westview supplies, and also to continue with maintenance of the facility.

Westview is located at 1 Westview Dr. in Gant and can be reached at 308-352-2133.

First Dollar

A First Dollar was presented to Brooke Robertson of Legacy Financial Partners, with offices located in Ogallala at 215 N Spruce. Robertson can be reached at 308-284-4930 and brooke.robertson@ampf.com.

Community Focus
Organization

The Community Focus was  presented by Genie Bishop and Renae Bottom of Western Sky Community Care Center. An LLC has been formed to facilitate the purchase of 50-bed nursing home licenses from Perkins County Health Services.

An agreement was signed with PCHS to purchase the Frederick property and a $60,000 grant was given to the organization by PCHS to assist in startup cost. Remaining nursing home equipment will also be given to the new nursing home by PCHS.

Bishop stated that an agreement was secured with former Grant resident Tim Groshans, who manages long-term living facilities in Nebraska, to serve as consultant and help with its USDA application. The committee has moved forward on getting their 501c3, and have formed a fund raising committee. They are planning a community meeting and fundraising kickoff soon.

Next meeting

The next chamber meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 20 at noon at the senior center. All Perkins County businesses are invited to attend.
