Tour Nebraska to drive through Perkins County

The 26th annual Nebraska Rod and Custom Association (NRCA) 600-mile Tour Nebraska driving event to be held on June 2 and 3 will be driving through Grant, Venango and Madrid.

Tour Nebraska is a road tour of 400 classic, antique and special interest vehicles. The route this year will go near 30 towns and villages.

The tour is scheduled to drive through Grant around 10:15 a.m. and Venango at 10:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 2. The vehicles are scheduled to drive through Madrid on Sunday, June 3 at 7:20 a.m.

The route changes every year as special attractions of Nebraska are showcased to members while bringing a classic car show to tour areas.

There are morning and noon stops along the way, but otherwise a lawn chair along side of the road or the tailgate of a pickup will provide a view of the tour vehicles in action.

The sound of the vehicles can be heard five miles away, and it will take 30 minutes for the tour to go by. Four hundred vehicles have registered to participate this year in what becomes a traveling parade of 15 miles or more.

With drivers and passengers, nearly 1,000 people will participate. Pre-tour arrangements have been made at scheduled stops and local law enforcement is used as much as possible to help prevent congestion.

The estimated value of the vehicles NRCA members will be driving is $6 million. From the first tour in 1993, they have decorated vehicles with small American flags.

Previous tours have covered over 14,000 miles of roads in Nebraska, promoting not only the association but also the many wonders of Nebraska to NRCA members.

The goal of the 1,850 members is to protect the rights of special-interest vehicle owners who enjoy driving them on the streets and highways of Nebraska.

This is a goodwill tour and members look forward to meeting the people who enjoy vintage automobiles.

Participants/members come from all over Nebraska and some from surrounding states. They come for this unique weekend and for the warm welcome they get from those who appreciate the show they bring to their town.
