SWNCBC hosting meeting for input on housing program

Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corporation (SWNCBC) is seeking public input on applying for rehabilitation funds through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.

A meeting will be held on Thursday, April 19 at Hastings Memorial Library, 246 Central Ave., in Grant beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The program would be for making health, safety and energy efficiency renovations to homes located in the incorporated communities of Perkins County which include Grant, Madrid, Elsie and Venango.

The housing program, referred to as Owner Occupied Rehabilitation, provides families who own their homes a financial resource to complete renovation work such as new windows, doors, siding, roofing, heating systems and insulation.

Families whose income qualifies at or below 100 percent Area Median Income (AMI) are eligible.

The current 100 percent AMI for a family of four is $69,900. This assistance is in the form of a forgivable loan over a period of 10 years with no payments required, as long as the home stays the family’s principle residence.

SWNCBC will be conducting this meeting to seek out the citizens’ opinions on the housing needs in Perkins County. They encourage homeowners in Grant, Madrid, Elsie and Venango to participate by attending the meeting; pre-applications will also be available at the meeting or by calling SWNCBC at 308-352-4338.
