City council race added to primary

Three more file for school and hospital boards

Grant City Council’s race will appear on the primary election ballot with the addition of two more filings.

Kirk York and Noel Bullock join council candidates Chase Sauder, Edward Dunn and incumbents Andrea Brueggeman and Darrell Pierce. Four candidates will advance to the general election in November, where two will take seats.

Two new filings for Perkins County school board include Adair Reese and Angela Gloy. They join incumbents Amy Kroeker and Ryan Hendricks. Three seats are open on the board. Scott Osler chose not to file for re-election.

Osler served two 4-year terms on the board as well as two terms on the Wheatland school board.

Since he no longer has children in the district, he felt it was time for someone else to serve and present new ideas.

“The financial condition of PCS is very strong. When the new building debt is paid off in September, we will have, if not the lowest tax levy in the state, one of the very lowest of all the Nebraska K-12 districts.

“To accomplish that and still offer the many opportunities we do to the PCS students is remarkable,” said Osler.

Richard Thurin has filed for the Perkins County hospital board, joining incumbents Mary Jo Gengenbach and Bonnie Taubenheim. There are three seats open on the board.

Mike Mosel, who did not file for re-election, accepted a position on the hospital board as a write-in following the primary election in May 2010.

The new hospital build and the addition of doctors and services at PCHS took place during his service.

Mosel has devoted decades to serving on boards in the community, including over two decades on the Upper Republican Natural Resource District (URNRD.) He felt it was time to devote more time to his work and family.

Grant City Mayor Mike Wyatt has chosen not to file for re-election due to health reasons and feeling it is time to let someone else serve the community.

Wyatt was elected as a Grant City Council member in November 2000. He resigned in March 2003 due to employment in Illinois. He was re-elected to the council in a special election in May 2007.

He has held the position of mayor since Adam Uehling’s resignation in July 2008.

Wyatt said the city has gained a good financial position during his tenure.
