Christmas meal boxes to benefit families in need

Thirty Perkins County families in need will enjoy a traditional Christmas meal in their homes thanks to the efforts of Perkins County Health Services (PCHS) and Hatch’s Super Foods.

The Christmas meal boxes include a ham, a gallon of milk, dinner rolls, stuffing, pumpkin pie, whipped topping, and ingredients for green bean casserole and candied yams. PCHS is donating the 30 hams and Hatch’s is donating the 30 gallons of milk.

Those interested in contributing toward a meal box may do so at Hatch’s. They have generously discounted the remaining items for a total cost of $25 per box.

Proceeds donated beyond the meal boxes will be given to the Perkins County Food Pantry.

The Christmas meal boxes include recipe cards created by PCHS Dietitian Shana Kraus, which feature both oven and microwave cooking instructions. Suggestions and recipes on what to do with leftovers are also included.

The PCHS marketing committee presented the idea of donating meals to families in need as a way to give back to the community.

Donations will be accepted until Dec. 20. The meals will be given to Pastor Russ Gaar with the Perkins County Food Pantry for distribution.
