Siblings Kyle McCormick and Chelle Gaston are opening Root 310 greenhouse for the first time next Thursday, Nov. 18 during the Christmas Open House.

Root 310 greenhouse to open this month

Siblings Chelle Gaston and Kyle McCormick will be opening their new business venture together, Root 310 LLC Greenhouse, this November. Their grand opening will be Thursday, Nov. 18 for the Christmas Open House.

Gaston and her husband Steve own a farm north of Venango on road 310, and she has also worked in long term care for many years. During the pandemic, she made a choice to leave long term care to pursue other interests, though she still has a handful of private clients.

McCormick, who currently lives in Ogallala, enjoys studying natural wellness and has a particular fascination with the human body and health. He graduated from Wayne State College with an exercise science degree and is the owner of Unique Fitness—which stands for “utilizing nature’s innate qualities and universal excellence”—where he does wellness consultations, physical training, nutrition work and other wellness programs.

When she was looking to sell her business, former owner of Country Gardens Alicia Patrick approached Gaston and asked if she would be interested in buying the greenhouse.

Once she learned the greenhouse could be winterized so it would be able to operate in the winter as well as the typical gardening season, Gaston was sold.

“I went home and told Steve I was buying a greenhouse!” Gaston said.

She contacted McCormick and told him they needed to jump on the opportunity, as McCormick had already been working with Gaston on a plan to add greenhouses to her farm.

Root 310 was created, and Gaston explained “the ‘root’ is because, well, we grow stuff,” and the 310 relates to the location of her home and farm on Road 310.

Gaston and McCormick said they are excited for the new business venture, and they believe people are looking for what they will be offering.

What Root 310 has to offer

At the open house event, Root 310 wil be offering a selection of winter products including balsam and fraser Christmas trees, poinsettias in both traditional and fantasy colors, Christmas cactus, wraths and other Christmas greenery, natural bath and body products, organic coffees and loose leaf teas, traditional flavored coffees, home decor items, gift items and potentially even house plants.

They will also have local vendors consigning at the greenhouse during the open house, including Becky Cooley’s Invisible Threads and Joan Marquarte who will be providing hand-knitted blankets.

Gaston encourages any other vendors interested in contracting with them to reach out at 308-352-6011.

After the open house, Root 310 greenhouse will be open for winter hours starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27. Their days and hours during the winter season will be Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Hours for the gardening season are yet to be determined.

Gaston and McCormick plan to offer a variety of traditional bedding plants during the gardening season, as well as products which focus on health and wellness in all areas of life.

“We want to be a farm-to-table type of company,” Gaston said.

They plan to provide organically grown and nutrient dense produce grown at the farm site, as well as “grab and go” packaged produce from the farm such as green beans, carrots, beets, lettuce and spinach blends and more.

They even want to put together healthy and nutritionally dense meal kits which would include produce and meat grown on the farm, or purchased from organic suppliers if it is an item the Root 310 farm does not supply.
