Gary Amos - June 27, 2013
Gary Amos, 70, of Brighton, Colo. passed away on June 18, 2013, at home with family at his side.
He was born July 23, 1942 to Charles, “Ed” and Julia “Judy” Amos in Grant, Neb. He attended high school in Grant and met Shirley Ogg of Ogallala, Neb. in 1959. They were married July 1, 1961 in Arvada, Colo. and remained inseparable for 52 years.
His work career started in Ogallala working at the cement plant for a few months. From there he worked for Leonard’s Dairy as a rural route driver. When they moved to Colorado he worked various residential construction jobs and for a while at the Beatrice Creamery.
He started Gary Amos Construction Company in 1977 and owned/managed the business until 1988 when he went to work for Western Millworks/ H & F Windows. In 2002 he purchased the radius window division and turned it into the Amos Window Company. He also drove an Adams County School bus from 2006 to 2008. His last job was working for MasterTech Services Inc. in Golden, Colo., from 2008 to 2012.
He enjoyed his interaction and relationships with his business associates and forged lasting friendships.
Gary’s interests included camping, hunting, gardening, raising cattle and chickens. He had a unique way of always blending what he enjoyed with humor and sharing it with those who knew him. Above all, Gary put his wife and family first.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Amos; children Kevin and wife Jeanette, Bob and wife Marilyn, Marty and wife Yvonne, Gary Jr. and wife Trish, Sheri and husband Rob Sinclair, Randy and wife Caryn, Christy and husband Charles Ellison, Kelly and husband John Wenzel; mother, Julia Amos; sisters and brothers, Sharon and husband Chuck Cluff, Ronald Amos, Kenneth and wife Karen Amos, Doug Amos; sister-in-law, Rosie Johnson; aunts Nita Den-Adel and Jessie and husband Dwight Camp; 22 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Amos.
Memorial service was scheduled for June 27 at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton.
Tabor-Rice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
