ABATE of Nebraska held their fifth annual gathering at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. Though not as many as hoped for due to weather, members of ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education) were treated to music, a fun run, bike games and beer, along with a hog drawing and prizes. Music was provided by The Countdowns. Area organizers for the event were Greg Koellner and Jerry Groff of Imperial.

The dental office of Dr. Marvin Swan invited their patients and the community to an open house to celebrate his 25 years of practice. Dr. Swan practiced in the Grant Medical Clinic when he first moved to Grant in 1979. The office relocated to its current location at 242 Central avenue in 2002. The dental office was designed with several operatories and the latest in dental sterilization design.

Nearly 250 flowers were exhibited at the Grant Garden Club’s Annual Show at the City Hall. More beautiful iris specimen showed than any other kind. Peonies were second in number in a wide variety of other flowers that were on display, as well as a number of bouquets and arrangements. Ninety-six people were in attendance.

Work on the Grant tennis courts really moved forward as the cement base for the second half of the court was poured. As soon as the net arrived and the court markings were painting, the first court would be ready for play. Members of the Lions Club and Jaycees donated the labor for resurfacing the courts, while businessman, organizations and individuals donated money to pay the cost of the needed materials.

A new all-electric range by Frigidaire allowed the cook to set controls “start” and “stop” to the proper times before leaving in the morning to come home in the afternoon to a cooked meal. There were five different heats on each cooking unit, and a heating unit at both the top and bottom of the full-size oven.
