Nebraska young artist awards honor local high school youth PDF Print E-mail

Samantha Snogren of Perkins County High School was among area students who were recognized at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Nebraska Young Artist Award Day April 9. Sixty-four high school juniors from across the state were selected as award recipients.
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students who are talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music and theatre.     High school teachers across the state nominated students and submitted an example of their work. Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts faculty chose the students who came to UNL on April 9.
Honored students took tours of the arts facilities, attended classes, met faculty and college students, and had lunch. Their parents were also invited, and they also took part in tours and received information on the arts at UNL.
In the afternoon there was an awards ceremony honoring the winners in the auditorium in the Sheldon Museum of Art. Students received a certificate, as well as an original piece of artwork commissioned for this event made by Toan Vuong, an undergraduate student in the Department of Art and Art History.
Students selected to participate in the Nebraska Young Artist Awards were also asked to nominate the teacher who provided them with the greatest amount of mentoring and support in the development of their special talents. Those teachers were also at the awards day.
