Twenty-two male athletes will suit up for Perkins County High School this track season with 12 returning letter winners.
“We have a good number of returning tracksters that we will look to for our points and leadership,” said Shayne Hite, head track coach at PCS. “We also have a good number of boys out when we add our younger athletes, so we should be able to score some decent points at meets.”
Three seniors are out of the returning letter winners and nine sophomores and eight freshmen will join two juniors to round out the roster.
There are a host of returning SPVA and district champions on the Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen roster this year as well as six state qualifiers.
Those on the roster who qualified for state last year include Tristen Kennicutt, Matt Sestak, Steph Schrotberger, Courtney Lyon, Emily Kemling and Kendra Hoffert.
The season starts March 27 (today) at home.
Hite is hopeful that the younger athletes will have an immediate impact.
“We are looking at some of the underclassmen to step up right away and contribute,” Hite said. “If everyone stays healthy and the underclassmen develop like we think they will, we should be able to compete for some top three finishes at most of our meets.”
