Area students’ academics honored

University of Nebraska at Kearney recently announced the names of students who earned a place on the dean’s list for the 2013 fall semester. To earn a place on the dean’s list, UNK students must complete at least 12 credit hours with a 3.5 or better overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Courses taken on a credit/no credit basis aren’t included among the 12 credits.
In recognition of their academic achievements, dean’s list students receive a certificate from their respective deans.
Students who earned a 4.0 average are noted by an asterisk after their names.
Elsie: Ryan Sowle, natural and social sciences.
Grant: Arielle Roberts–fine arts and humanities; Emily Kiolbasa–education; Max Jones–business and technology; Shalee Pollard– education; Alecia Friedel* –education.
Madrid: Bert Ogg business and technology; Jessica Day– business and technology; Jessica Hoffert–undeclared;  Trevor Lee–natural and social sciences.
Wallace: Laura O’Brien–education; Whitney Smith–education; John Lempke* –fine arts and humanities.

Turner earns degree from Bellevue

Bellevue University proudly acknowledges the accomplishments of students who have earned degrees from June to December 2013. Jana Turner of Grant earned a Master of Healthcare Administration.

UNK wind ensemble touring midwest

The University of Nebraska Kearney Wind Ensemble is performing at five high schools in eastern Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota as part of a Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 concert tour.
The 44-member Wind Ensemble, directed by Duane Bierman, opens the tour with a home concert in the Recital Hall of the UNK Fine Arts Building on Jan. 29.
The 1,500-mile round trip tour also includes stops at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and St. Paul Winter Carnival. Members of the UNK Wind Ensemble were selected through auditions. They include Bert Ogg of Madrid, bass clarinet and     John Paul Lempke of Wallace, euphonium.
