Garbage spills into ditch
By Tim Linscott
Ice was a contributing factor in an accident north of Grant on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
At 7 a.m. Nov. 6 a white 2001 International tractor pulling a refuse trailer tipped on its side on Roads 325 and 771.
Perkins County Sheriff’s officials and Grant Fire and Rescue members were on the scene after being notified at 7:11 a.m.
Fred C. Cline, 46, of North Platte, was driving west on Road 771 carrying a load of garbage from North Platte to the local landfill. According to the sheriff’s department, Cline attempted to turn left on to Road 325 and speed coupled with ice was a factor in the accident. The tractor went off the road and rolled on its side, spilling a portion of the load into the ditch.
Cline was using a seatbelt at the time and sustained injuries to the shoulder/upper arm and had cuts to the upper torso. The Grant Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate Cline from the vehicle.
Cline was transported to Perkins County Community Service via ambulance.
A total of $1,500 damage was done to the vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
Perkins County Sheriff Jim Brueggeman noted that this is the second time a truck hauling garbage that has tipped over, the first being in the early 1990s.
