The Wallace Wildcats played host to the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Lady Cats were ready to play, but the Broncos are always tough. The Wildcats made some amazing plays, and fought hard, but in the end they came up short. The Lady Broncos won the match in straight sets, 16-25, 20-25, 24-26.
When asked about the game, Coach Elizabeth Strand said, “When we don’t talk, it throws us out of our game.”
She added, “You can’t let a team like Wauneta-Palisade have a head start.”
Leading the team offensively against Wauneta-Palisade was senior Alexandria Lundvall with seven points, followed by senior Sara Hubbard with five points (two aces). Junior Christina Daniels (two aces) and freshman Maggie May each had four points, and juniors Mickayla Sheets and Morgan Messersmith each had two points.
Leading the team with set assists was Lundvall with 26, followed by Sheets and May each with one.
Defensively, Daniels led the team with 12 kills and four blocks, followed by junior Hayley Storm with eight kills. Hubbard had six kills, senior Paige Aylward had two kills, Sheets had one kill, and Lundvall had one block.
The Lady Cats began their battle for a state bid in McCook on Monday, Nov. 4. The Lady Cats were set to play Hayes Center.
