Watkins Reunion 2013
Families and friends from Nebraska and states as far away as Alaska were drawn to the Watkins Reunion in Grant on Sunday, Aug. 11. The weather was perfect for the picnic held in the Grant City Park. Many members were able to attend the morning service together at the United Methodist Church before going to the park for the gathering at noon. As always, there was plenty to eat with Wayne and Barbara Aten once again bringing their famous homemade ice cream for dessert.
Family and friends were entertained during the meal by a newly-formed Grant quartet headed by Dennis Watkins with Dave Mendyk, Ivan Regier and Leon Regier. Their good songs and harmony were enjoyed by all.
This was the 68th year the Watkins family and friends have gathered in Grant to visit, renew family ties, meet good people they didn’t know were relatives, and share memories. Signing the guest book were 37 people from eight states.
Following the custom, those attending recognized and celebrated the oldest person in attendance, Howard E. Watkins, 98; the youngest, Ryleigh Lefkowitz, six; those married the longest, Wayne and Barbara Aten, 66 years and the newest married couple, Joel and Sarah Watkins, one year, four months. Traveling the farthest to the reunion was Holly Watkins Reynolds from Anchorage, Alaska.
Those in attendance from Nebraska were Dolores Sexson, Bev Norman, Doug, Shari, Josh and Jacob Sexson; Kelly and Anne Kirkpatrick, all from Grant; Cheri, Carlie, Jenni and Derek Sis from Elsie; Dennis and Anita Watkins; Joel and Sarah Watkins from Venango; and Andrew Norman from Omaha.
Those traveling from out of state were Holly Reynolds, Anchorage; Donald Broughton, Tucson, Ariz.; Kenneth Jacobson and Nancy Watkins Sally, Aurora, Colo.; James Jacobson and granddaughter Ryleigh Lefkowitz, Sterling, Colo.; Graydon and Judy Watkins Jessup, James and Susan Watkins Rudosky, Christina Rudosky and Filippo Screpanti, all of Boulder, Colo.; Dale and Bonnie Watkins Workman, Los Gatos, Calif.; Becky Watkins Dugan, Cupertino, Calif.; Wayne and Barbara Aten, Goodland, Kan.; Howard E.
