Buchanan heads math department
By Jan Rahn
Perkins County high school math students have a new, but familiar, instructor for the fall term.
Michelle Buchanan is filling the position formerly taught by Chris Mestl on a part-time basis.
Buchanan is the wife of former superintendent Tobin Buchanan. She and her family moved to Grant six years ago when he accepted the position.
The Elk-horn native, received her Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Northern Colorado and pursued a Master’s Degree from Peru State College.
Buchanan previously taught seventh and eighth grade mathematics in Ralston and Millard, and she has coached various sports, including volleyball, basketball and track.
Raising three young sons was her career of choice for a few years. They are William, nine, in fourth grade, Beau, seven, who is a second grader, and Benjamin, six, in first grade this fall.
Buchanan puts spending time with her family at the top of her list of favorite things. She also likes to golf, run and enjoys other forms of exercise.
