Elsie Post Office to remain open with hours of daily operation shortened
By Jan Rahn
Elsie residents can breathe easier following a decision by the U.S. Postal Service—the post office will remain open with reduced hours.
Beginning Saturday, July 13, window hours Monday through Friday will be reduced from seven hours to four hours.
The new hours will be from 8 a.m to noon weekdays. More good news—Saturday hours will remain the same. Window hours are from 8:30-9:30 a.m.
Postal customers will have access to their mailboxes 24 hours a day.
Mail will be available to pick up daily by 9:30 a.m.
Postal customers were invited to a meeting in mid-June at the Elsie American Legion Hall where a representative from the U.S. Postal Service answered questions and provided additional information.
Results from a prior survey, along with customer input at the meeting had a bearing on the final decision made by the postal service concerning the options being considered for the Elsie Post Office.
Back in April, the U.S. Postal Service announced that it was backing down from their plan to stop Saturday mail delivery. The plan would have taken effect early August—now things are going to remain the same through September.
