8th annual “Mikey Ride” to benefit Wallace native PDF Print E-mail

In its eighth year, the annual “Mikey Ride” organized by Mike and Susie Maupin of Wallace, continues to get bigger and better with each passing year.
Set for July 20, the ride will start and end at the Maupin residence, 218 N. Sumner in Wallace and includes the towns of Hayes Center, Trenton, Haigler, Wray and Holyoke, Colo., Venango and Grant.
Participants should register between 9 and 10 a.m. and will hit the road at 10 a.m.
Not a rider? Everyone is invited to the post-ride dinner, refreshments and fun at the Maupins at approximately 5 p.m. Meat is provided and attendees are invited to bring a covered dish if they wish.
Aside from being a great deal of fun for participants, the ride has become a major philanthropic event as well. Proceeds from the ride are donated to a worthy cause each year. Last year’s event raised $19,000.
This year’s proceeds will assist Jessica Smith Vapenik, Wallace native recently diagnosed with lymphoma. She and her husband Jon are the parents of two young children.
Passionate about what has become their mission, the Maupins said, “It’s a tool for everyone to get help, and it gives people a way to help.”
