Notes from Meadowlark Gallery
By the Perkins County Area Arts Council

Paintings on display for gallery’s July show

Tristan Gorgen of Grant is this month’s featured artist at Meadowlark Gallery in Grant.
A total of 17 paintings and two sculptures by Gorgen are awaiting visitors to the gallery during July.
Gorgen focuses primarily on landscapes in his paintings, borrowing heavily from ancient texts such as the Iliad, Gilgamesh, Herodotus, The Odyssey and the Bible as subject matter.
“These books and stories were written so beautifully, the poet’s words become a visual picture,” said Gorgen.
He strives to compose theatrical scenes depicting simple pleasures, beauty and most prominently, the overwhelming and uncontrollable forces within nature.
“Nature is the one thing that man has no control over, and I feel that I must treat the subject matter as that,” he said.
He continually experiments with different styles and application methods to convey the unpredictable nature of the environment.
Gorgen received formal art education at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
