Tracksters bring home five SPVA golds PDF Print E-mail

Perkins County tracksters took part in the SPVA Conference meet in Hershey on Friday, honing their skills as much as possible in preparation for Districts at home next Thursday, May 9. The uncooperative weather has left little chance for athletes to improve to their fullest potential during the spring season.
The Perkins County teams finished respectfully in the middle of their SPVA competittors, however. The boys placed third with 94 points and the girls came in fourth with 69 points.
Girls Results
Finishing in fourth place, the girls competed against North Platte St. Pat’s (first 146.5 points), Chase County (135), Sutherland (112), Hershey (55.5) and Maxwell (8).
Gold medalists were senior Shania Metcalf in discus with a throw of 111’7” and junior Courtney McClenahan in triple jump with a leap of 32’l.5”.
The girls 4x800 meter relay team finished strong in second place with a time of 10:54.80 (S. Schrotberger, E. Kemling, M. Curtis, C. Lyon).
Second and third place medals went to Stephanie Schrotberger and Courtney Lyon respectively in the 800 meter run.

Boys Results
The boys placed third among the six teams competing at SPVA with a score of 94. Chase County’s 175.5 points gave them first place with North Plate St. Pat’s taking second with 144.5 points. Other team scores were Hershey, fourth, 46 points; Maxwell, fifth, 41 points; and Sutherland, sixth, 24 points.
Senior Elliot Carlson took the gold in four events—the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, long jump, and as a member of the 4x100 meter relay team.
Teammate Quinton Hite, senior, placed second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes and was also a member of the winning relay team.
Two second place medals went to senior Vinny Ross in the discus and shot put.

Next Meet
Perkins County’s track teams took part in Best of the Midwest competition in Sutherland on Tuesday, will compete  in the Dundy County Stratton Twilight Meet this Friday, and will host the District Meet next Thursday, May 9.
