The Wallace Wildcats track season is set to begin on Thursday, March 21 at the Perkins County Quad with Perkins County, South Platte, and Wauneta-Palisade.
Fourteen boys and seven girls will be representing the Wildcats this year, including 12 returning letterwinners (* denotes letterwinner,). Seniors: Taylor Nielson*, Lane Scott, Jose Arvizo. Juniors: Sara Hubbard **, Alexandria Lundvall**, Jaclyn Nelson**, Paige Aylward**, Landon Swedberg**, Shane Anders*, John Marquardt*, Hayden Woodcox. Sophomores: Mickayla Sheets*, Hayley Storm*, Juan Gomez*, Jackson Porter*, Dillon Koop. Freshmen: Abbey Rohde, Tanner Clough, Andrew Gardner, Josh May, Collin Swedberg.
Dillon Koop is out with an injury right now and is helping as a manager. Teammates and coaches hope to see him in uniform before the end of the year. Elizabeth Strand, Kory Rohde, and Donna Clough will continue to coach the Wildcat track team.
Junior Landon Swedberg qualified for state as a freshman, and is the only Wildcat with state meet experience. Making the trip to Omaha this year is a goal for several athletes on the team. All of the freshmen qualified for last year’s junior high track championships in Gothenburg and have goals of qualifying for state in high school.
The Wildcats will continue to focus on competing, goal setting, and seeing improvement throughout the season. Practices have been competitive so far. Almost everyone on the team has been working in the weight room as well, either during class or after practice.
If the great attitudes and hard work continue, there will be a good deal of improvement for everyone this spring. With the numbers on the boys team, we hope to be able to compete for team scores as well this year. Schools in the D10 District include: Brady, Hayes Center, Hitchcock County, Maxwell, Maywood, Medicine Valley, Paxton, Sutherland, Wallace, Wauneta-Palisade.
