Commissioner being sought for District 3
By Jan Rahn
The search is underway for a Perkins County Commissioner to take the seat formerly held by the late James Deaver for the last 34 years.
Deaver’s death on Jan. 11 at the age of 73 leaves a vacancy in District 3.
Applications are being taken at the Perkins County Clerk’s Office until the end of business hours on Friday, Feb. 1.
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, an open session interview process will take place in the commissioners room on the second floor of the courthouse at 9 a.m.
Applicants will be interviewed by Perkins County Clerk Rita Long, Perkins County Attorney Richard Roberts and Perkins County Treasurer Patsy Kroeker.
During that time, applications will be reviewed, interviews will take place, and public comment will be received. The replacement will be determined on that day.
Those interested in serving as commissioner must meet the following criteria:
• Applicant must be a registered voter in Perkins County.
• Applicant must reside in District 3.
• Applications must be in writing.
The order in which applicants are interviewed will be determined by lot on Feb. 6.
Whoever is chosen to fill the position of District 3 Commissioner will join Commissioners Sid Colson-District 1 and Leon Pankonin-District 2.
