As we enter 2013–devoted to living God’s way!

I am amazed by this truth: God wants us to live life fully engaged. God wants us to devote ourselves to wise living. I am amazed by this! God cares that I look at life and not drift off or zone out or ignore Him.
God’s Word is clear that God is not a fan of people who coast through life with a que-sera-sera attitude toward Him or toward life. He wants you and me to be sober-minded, involved in thinking through life, and most importantly, that we be in a relationship with Him where we look to Him constantly for guidance and wisdom. God wants my mind engaged in every-day life. Let that sink in!
When Jesus came to this earth, God came! God involved Himself in our lives—He became one of us! Jesus came to seek out people lost in self-worship and sin. Jesus came to pay the penalty for doing life our way; Jesus came to die for us! Jesus took on our punishment for sin and rose from the dead to be our King. He lives to rule all who seek forgiveness of sin and life with God.
So, we know from God’s Word that God has involved Himself in our lives. But, this is not just an eternity issue! It’s a right-now issue! God involves Himself in our lives and asks that we look to Him for wisdom in daily life. In God’s Word, there is an entire book devoted to God’s people living with intentional wisdom! Wise living is essentially living life God’s way.
Proverbs was written by a man to whom God gave great wisdom; his name was Solomon. Solomon writes in Proverbs 2:1-6 that we should approach life desperate for wisdom from God. He writes, “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
God wants us to live life fully engaged for Him; for that, we need wisdom from God. Solomon says “Store it up!”; “Cry out for it!”; “Look for it like it’s Treasure!”; and finally, “Go to God for it!”. The wisdom in God’s Word doesn’t take long to read, but we will spend all our life seeking to live out the wisdom of God.
If you are a committed follower of Jesus Christ, devote yourself to living God’s way! Look into God’s Word and store it up! Cry out for it! Seek after it like silver or gold! Go to God for it, and like Solomon, ask for the wisdom to do life God’s way.
